Hosta ‘Yellow Fever’ is a registered cultivar () .

Year registered2009
Section classIV-3

Overview

Registered in 2009 as a seedling of *Hosta* 'Gold Edger' with unknown pollen parent, 'Yellow Fever' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its intense yellow marginal variegation on green leaves. The leaf margins are described as golden yellow and flat, contributing to the cultivar's namesake brightness, while the broadly ovate, cordate-based leaves exhibit light cupping, twisting, folding, and waviness with moderate corrugation.

In the Garden

'Yellow Fever' reaches 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and spreads to 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, forming a compact mound with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade with consistent moisture, typical of most hostas, and its small size makes it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Companion plants with contrasting foliage textures, such as ferns or heucheras, complement its bright variegation.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain evenly moist soil, especially during dry periods; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
