Hosta ‘Yellow Comet’ is a registered cultivar () .

Year registered2008
Section classIV-3

Overview

Registered in 2008, this small-sized cultivar resulted from a cross between *Hosta* 'Grandmaster' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Warwick Comet' (pollen parent). 'Yellow Comet' is visually distinctive for its green leaves with golden yellow flat margins, combined with burgundy scapes that provide strong color contrast during flowering.

In the Garden

Mature plants form a compact mound 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall and 14 inches (35.6 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. This small hosta performs best in partial to full shade, typical of the genus. Its tidy dimensions make it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders, where it pairs well with other small perennials such as ferns or heucheras. The burgundy scapes add vertical interest above the foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during establishment and throughout the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Like most hostas, 'Yellow Comet' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
