Overview

Registered in 2002 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Maize and Blue', 'Yang' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with wide gold margins and a notably shiny upper surface. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 9 inches (22.9 cm) long and 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) wide, display nine vein pairs and a lightly folded, lightly corrugated texture, with a glaucous bloom on the underside that transitions to a very shiny finish.

In the Garden

'Yang' forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter and 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens. The creamy white scapes, rising 12 to 16 inches (30.5 to 40.6 cm), provide vertical interest among lower-growing perennials such as ferns or heucheras.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents.
