Overview
Registered in 1990 by L. Simpers and P. Ruh, this self-pollinated seedling of *Hosta* 'Fountain' produces a medium-sized clump with variegated foliage. The leaves are dull medium green with small undulations along the margins, bearing ten vein pairs and reaching 7 inches (17.8 cm) in length by 5 inches (12.7 cm) in width. The plant forms a mound 10.5 inches (26.7 cm) tall and 21 inches (53.3 cm) in diameter.
In the Garden
'Woodland Green' performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, where its muted green variegation remains stable. At maturity it forms a compact clump suitable for the middle of a border or as an edging plant, pairing well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its moderate size also makes it appropriate for container culture.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. The foliage may be browsed by deer and slugs; standard deterrent measures are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
