Overview
Registered in 2005 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Magic Colors', 'Wonderland' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its medium green leaves with creamy white margins that occasionally show greenish streaks. The leaf blades are ovate with rounded bases, lightly wavy, and notably shiny on both surfaces, with a heavy substance that contributes to its compact, dense habit.
In the Garden
'Wonderland' reaches a mature spread of approximately 14 inches (35.6 cm) and a height of 7.5 inches (19.1 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as edging along pathways. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its variegated foliage remains crisp and well-defined. Its small stature and tidy mound form also make it an excellent candidate for container cultivation. Companion plants that appreciate similar conditions include ferns, heucheras, and small shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain evenly moist, well-drained soil, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Wonderland' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor for pests and take protective measures as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
