H. ‘Witten Lodge’

Hosta ‘Witten Lodge’ is a registered cultivar () .

Year registered2015
Section classII-2

Overview

Registered in 2015 as an open-pollinated seedling of *Hosta* 'Frances Williams', 'Witten Lodge' forms a large, mound-like clump distinguished by its broad, heavily corrugated blue-green leaves with slightly rippled margins and a prominent glaucous bloom on both surfaces. The plant reaches 35 inches (88.9 cm) in height and 46 inches (116.8 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate.

In the Garden

This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage maintains the most intense coloration and the glaucous bloom remains undisturbed. At nearly four feet across at maturity, 'Witten Lodge' serves as a substantial specimen or background plant in shaded borders, and pairs effectively with finer-textured ferns or golden-leaved companions for contrast. The 37- to 40-inch scapes bear green flowers in midsummer, adding vertical interest above the broad leaf mound.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during establishment and in hot weather, as the large leaves are prone to desiccation. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges; typical slug and deer precautions are advisable for optimal foliage condition.
