Overview

Registered in 2012, *Hosta* 'Witching Hour' is a large cultivar of unknown parentage (pollen parent not recorded) derived from *Hosta* 'Hearts and Flowers'. It is visually distinguished by its medium green, broadly ovate leaves with dull surfaces and creamy white, slightly rippled margins approximately 0.5 inches (1.3 cm) wide.

In the Garden

'Witching Hour' forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 22 inches (55.9 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, where its green and white variegation remains stable. Its substantial leaf substance makes it suitable for foreground or mid-border positions in shaded beds, paired with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials. It is not recommended for container cultivation due to its large mature size.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick leaves offer moderate resistance to slugs, though monitoring may be necessary in damp conditions. Deer may browse the foliage.
