Overview
Registered in 2011, *Hosta* 'Wishing Well' is a large, mound-forming cultivar derived from a complex cross involving *Hosta* 'Color Fantasy', 'Big Daddy', 'Abiqua Drinking Gourd', 'Love Pat', and 'Popo'. It is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green, heavily glaucous, nearly round leaves that are deeply cupped, moderately twisted, and intensely wavy with slightly rippled margins and deep corrugation.
In the Garden
'Wishing Well' forms a substantial mound 38 inches (96.5 cm) in diameter and 23 inches (58.4 cm) tall, with a moderate growth rate. It is notable for holding its blue-green color and leaf substance even in two-thirds day sun, making it suitable for brighter positions than many blue-leaved hostas. In shade or partial shade, it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other large-leaved perennials; its size precludes container use.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, especially in sunnier sites, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, though the thick, corrugated leaves offer some resistance.
