Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek, this small hosta forms a compact mound of ovate leaves with green centers and bright golden yellow, rippled margins. The foliage is dull-surfaced on both sides, with five to six pairs of veins, and the leaf base is rounded.

In the Garden

Reaching 8 inches (20.3 cm) in height and spreading to 21 inches (53.3 cm) in diameter, 'Wind River Gold' is suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to light shade, as is typical for gold-margined hostas, and pairs well with small ferns or woodland groundcovers. Its compact, mound-like habit makes it an effective edging plant.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in garden settings.
