Hosta ‘Wily Willy’ is a registered cultivar () .

Year registered1998
Section classIV-1

Overview

Registered in 1998 by an unknown hybridizer, 'Wily Willy' is a small variegated hosta of unknown parentage. Its most distinctive feature is the combination of very shiny, dark green leaves with flat margins, a tapered base, and reddish purple scapes that rise above the compact mound.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches a mature size of 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter, forming a moderate-growing, mound-like clump. It is suitable for partial to full shade conditions typical of hosta-growing zones, and its small stature makes it appropriate for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. Companion plants might include small ferns, heucheras, or other miniature hostas that do not overwhelm its compact form.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor regularly and take protective measures if necessary.
