Year registered2004
Section classV-4b

Overview

Registered in 2004, this miniature hosta cultivar was developed from a cross between *H.* 'Let's Streak' and *H. longissima*. Its most distinctive feature is the lance-shaped, dark green foliage with narrow, creamy white margins that undergo a seasonal color change, with the margins shifting from white to cream as the season progresses.

In the Garden

'Hosta 'William Bedard' forms a compact, fast-growing mound reaching approximately 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the white margins remain most distinct, and is well suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Its small stature makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation, where it can be paired with other miniature perennials such as small ferns or *Heuchera* cultivars.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in containers, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. As with most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, though its small, wavy leaves may be less appealing to slugs than larger-leaved varieties.
