Hosta ‘Wild Thing’ is a registered cultivar () .

Year registered2009
Section classIII-1

Overview

Registered in 2009 from unknown parentage, 'Wild Thing' is a medium-sized hosta distinguished by its heavily veined, ovate leaves with medium green, slightly rippled margins and a dull surface on both sides. The variegated foliage, combined with moderate substance and a compact mound-like habit, gives this cultivar a robust, textured appearance.

In the Garden

'Wild Thing' forms a dense mound reaching 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its medium size suits border fronts, woodland gardens, or shaded containers. The heavily veined leaves provide visual interest when paired with fine-textured companions such as ferns or heucheras.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. While hostas are generally susceptible to slug and deer damage, 'Wild Thing's good leaf substance offers moderate resistance to these pests.
