Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek, 'Wild Bill' is a large hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. Its foliage is distinctively blue-green with golden yellow margins, and the leaf blades exhibit irregular speckling of lighter green and gold, often with a green margin within the variegated border.

In the Garden

'Wild Bill' reaches a mature size typical of large hostas, with leaves measuring 10 inches (25.4 cm) long and 7.5 inches (19.1 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green tones and gold margins are most pronounced. The broadly ovate, cordate leaves have a dull upper surface and a glaucous bloom beneath, with slightly rippled margins that add textural interest. This cultivar pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its bold foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer weather, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Wild Bill' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
