Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek of the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Wiggle Worms' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its extremely narrow, heavily rippled leaves that resemble the sinuous movement of its namesake. The lanceolate foliage, reaching 7 inches (17.8 cm) in length but only 0.5 to 1.5 inches (1.3 to 3.8 cm) in width, displays a green center with a very narrow creamy yellow to white margin and features three to four vein pairs.
In the Garden
This dense, mound-forming hosta reaches 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and spreads to 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its narrow, rippled leaves create textural contrast alongside broader-leaved perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or other small hostas. The 20- to 24-inch (50.8 to 61.0 cm) scapes bear medium green flowers in midsummer.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Wiggle Worms' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
