Overview
Registered in 2016, this small sport of a splashed seedling from *Hosta* 'Warwick Choice' produces tricolor leaves with creamy white centers, light chartreuse intermediate bands, and dark green margins. The broadly ovate, cordate-based foliage is lightly folded, wavy, moderately cupped, twisted, and corrugated, with dull surfaces above and below.
In the Garden
Reaching 16.5 inches (41.9 cm) in height and 19 inches (48.3 cm) in diameter, 'White Sails' forms a slow-growing, upright clump suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. Its small size and distinctive tricolor pattern make it effective in rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders, where it contrasts well with fine-textured ferns or dark-leaved heucheras. The white scapes, 20 to 26 inches (50.8 to 66.0 cm) tall, carry pale flowers that blend into the foliage display.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the tender new growth may be attractive to both pests.
