Year registered1999
Section classIII-4b

Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Marbled White', registered in 1999, 'White Necklace' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its dark green, very shiny leaves with pure white margins measuring 0.75 inches (1.9 cm) wide. The leaf blades are 10.5 inches (26.7 cm) long and 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, with eight pairs of veins and a rounded base; both upper and lower surfaces are notably glossy.

In the Garden

'White Necklace' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height and 46 inches (116.8 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its white margins brighten darker areas of the border. The plant's substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or for mass planting, and its glossy foliage provides textural contrast when paired with finer-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'White Necklace' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
