Overview
Registered in 1998 by P. Ruh, this small hosta forms a compact, mound-like clump with variegated foliage. Its leaves are medium green with slightly rippled margins, a slightly shiny surface above and below, and a tapered base, distinguishing it as a refined miniature.
In the Garden
‘White Mule’ reaches 8 inches (20.3 cm) in height and spreads to 21 inches (53.3 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and is well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. Its small size makes it an excellent companion for other miniature hostas, ferns, or woodland groundcovers.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release formulation; provide protection from slugs and deer, which may damage the foliage.
