Overview
Registered in 2010 by M. Zilis of the American Hosta Society, 'White Edger' is a large, mound-forming cultivar derived from a Tardiana type pod parent. It is visually distinctive for its thick, ovate leaves with medium green centers and flat, medium green margins, a slightly shiny upper surface, and lightly wavy edges, producing whitish flowers on tall scapes.
In the Garden
'White Edger' forms a slow-growing, dense mound reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 46 inches (116.8 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border or groundcover positions in partial to full shade. Its substantial leaves and upright scapes of whitish flowers pair well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials. The plant’s large size and thick foliage render it less suitable for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during establishment and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth resumes. While the thick leaves offer some resistance, monitor for slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
