Overview
Registered in 2002, *Hosta* 'Whiskey Sour' is a small-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'Golden Tsushimensis' (pod parent) and *Hosta yingeri* (pollen parent). The plant is visually distinctive for its elliptic, moderately wavy leaves that are green with gold margins, slightly puckered and lightly corrugated, with a slightly shiny surface on both sides.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms an upright clump reaching 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of most hostas, and is well-suited to small garden spaces, rock gardens, or front-of-border positions due to its compact size. The gold-margined foliage provides contrast when paired with darker-leaved perennials such as ferns or heucheras.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protection from slugs and deer may be necessary, particularly on the young, tender foliage.
