Overview

Registered in 1999 by G. Krossa, this small sport of *Hosta* 'Fortunei Hyacinthina' forms a compact mound of medium green leaves with narrow, greenish-yellow margins. The foliage is slightly shiny above and dull beneath, with flat leaf bases and slightly rippled marginal edges.

In the Garden

Reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, 'Wayne' is suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to light shade, as is typical for hostas, and pairs well with small ferns, heucheras, or spring bulbs. Its moderate growth rate and small size make it appropriate for edging or small-space plantings.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may be browsed by deer and is susceptible to slug damage; monitor accordingly.
