Section classIII-1

Overview

Registered in 1995, 'Waving Wuffles' is a medium-sized hybrid derived from *Hosta ventricosa*. The cultivar is distinguished by its heavily rippled leaf margins, which create a wavy appearance across the entire leaf surface, combined with medium green variegated foliage and a slightly shiny texture on both surfaces.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen plant in shaded beds. The 32 to 38 inch (81.3 to 96.5 cm) scapes bear flowers that rise well above the foliage, providing vertical interest. Companion plants could include ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season to establish a deep root system. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Waving Wuffles' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
