Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek, *Hosta* 'Warwick Ballerina' is a large hybrid between *H. pycnophylla* and *H.* 'Sum and Substance'. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green, broadly ovate leaves with heavily rippled green margins, deep corrugation, and a thin glaucous bloom on the undersides.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a semi-upright to mounding clump reaching 21 inches (53.3 cm) in height and 44 inches (111.8 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where its heavy leaf texture and deep veining are most pronounced. Its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders alongside ferns, astilbes, and other broad-leaved perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain leaf turgor, particularly in warmer exposures. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, it may be susceptible to slug damage; monitor and manage as needed. It is hardy in typical hosta-growing zones.
