Overview

Registered in 2010 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Kaleidochrome', 'Vuvuzela' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its golden yellow leaf centers edged in light green. The ovate leaves, approximately 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) long and 2 inches (5.1 cm) wide, display a slightly shiny surface above and below, with 5 to 6 vein pairs and a lightly wavy margin.

In the Garden

With a mature spread of 15 inches (38.1 cm) and height of 7 inches (17.8 cm), 'Vuvuzela' forms a compact, moderate-growing mound suitable for the front of borders or rock gardens. Its yellow scapes, reaching 8 to 16 inches (20.3 to 40.6 cm) in height, carry lavender flowers typical of the *H. longipes* type. This cultivar performs best in partial shade to filtered light, where the gold center remains stable, and pairs well with other small hostas or shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns and heucheras. Its small size also makes it appropriate for troughs or containers.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Vuvuzela' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
