Overview
Registered in 2009, 'Volleyball Fame' is a large, upright hosta resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Pistol' and *H.* 'Matilda'. Its most distinctive feature is the medium green leaf surface with white margins that are slightly rippled, accompanied by streaking in both medium green and white, creating a variegated appearance that persists well throughout the growing season.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature diameter of 46 inches (116.8 cm) and a height of 18 inches (45.7 cm), with scapes rising 34 to 40 inches (86.4 to 101.6 cm) above the foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border. The ovate, cordate-based leaves with 11 to 13 vein pairs and a slightly shiny surface on both sides provide textural contrast when paired with finer-leaved shade perennials such as ferns or heucheras.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While not specifically noted as resistant, standard hosta precautions against slugs and deer are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
