Overview

Registered in 2011, *Hosta* 'Virgo' is a small-sized cultivar derived from a *H. 'Breeder's Choice'* seedling as pod parent, with a pollen parent from a cross of *H. 'Breeder's Choice'* seedling and an unknown parent. It is visually distinctive for its ovate, dull green leaves with white, slightly rippled margins approximately 0.375 inches (1.0 cm) wide, and for its variable marginal variegation that occasionally produces streaking.

In the Garden

'Hosta' 'Virgo' forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its small size makes it well suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Companion plants include fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns, *Heuchera*, or *Tiarella*.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges; slug and deer damage may occur and should be monitored in typical hosta-growing zones.
