Overview
Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Valley's Wave Ripple' is a medium-sized hybrid of *H. pycnophylla* with an unknown pollen parent. The cultivar is distinguished by its intensely wavy, broadly ovate leaves with heavily rippled margins, a very shiny upper surface, and a glaucous white bloom on the undersides.
In the Garden
This upright, moderately growing hosta reaches a mature diameter of approximately 20 inches (50 cm) and a height of about 16 inches (40 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its bold leaf texture makes it an effective specimen for contrasting with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*. Its medium size suits it for the middle of a border or as an accent in a woodland garden.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While the heavy leaf substance offers some resistance, standard slug and deer precautions are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
