Overview

Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Valley's Petticoat' is a small, upright cultivar derived from a cross between *H. pycnophylla* and *H.* 'Riptide'. It is distinguished by its medium blue-green, broadly ovate leaves with heavily rippled margins, white leaf undersides, and purple petioles.

In the Garden

This compact hosta reaches approximately 18 inches (45 cm) in height and 24 inches (60 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade and is well suited to the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. The upright, wavy foliage pairs effectively with fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may be susceptible to slug damage, particularly on the new foliage, and should be monitored in damp conditions.
