Overview
Registered in 2015, *Hosta* 'Valley's Love Cats' is a giant, upright-growing cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Helios'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Arc de Triomphe'* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its large, broadly ovate leaves with cordate bases, which are blue-green with gold margins and further streaked with yellow, green, and blue, the leaf surfaces being dull above and below with flat, lightly twisted and wavy margins.
In the Garden
'Valley's Love Cats' reaches a mature diameter of approximately 43 inches (110 cm) and a height of 39 inches (100 cm), with scapes extending 47 to 55 inches (120–140 cm) tall. It is suited to partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its substantial foliage makes it an effective specimen or focal point in a woodland border or mixed shade garden. Its large size and upright habit render it unsuitable for containers; companion plants might include ferns or shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its broad, blue-green leaves.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. As with many large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed as needed.
