Overview
Registered in 2015, *Hosta* 'Valley's Lemon Limbo' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Tequila Sunrise' and *H. pycnophylla'* (pod parent) and *H.* 'Mississippi River' (pollen parent). The plant is visually distinguished by its blue-green leaves with wide, heavily rippled golden yellow margins, dark red petioles, and white-backed leaf undersides.
In the Garden
'Valley's Lemon Limbo' forms a slow-growing, mound-like clump reaching approximately 10 inches (25 cm) in height and 14 inches (35 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the gold margins remain bright without scorching. The compact habit and distinctive foliage coloration make it suitable for the front of shaded borders, rock gardens, or container plantings, where it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other small- to medium-sized hostas.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and use appropriate controls if needed.
