Overview
Registered in 2009 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Rhinestone Cowboy', 'Urban Cowboy' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with white margins and irregular yellow and white streaks. The foliage is broadly ovate with cordate bases, deeply corrugated, and bears a thin glaucous bloom on the undersides.
In the Garden
'Urban Cowboy' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 13 inches (33.0 cm) in height and 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter, with a slow growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf color and variegation are most pronounced. The substantial, textured leaves make it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shade gardens, paired with ferns or other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Urban Cowboy' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
