Overview
Registered in 2014 by J. Miller and introduced by M. Rosenberg and J. Goodrich, 'Uniquely Rails to Trails' is a giant hosta distinguished by its medium blue-green, broadly ovate leaves with slightly rippled margins and a corrugated surface. The leaves, reaching 16 inches in length and 15 inches in width with 13 to 15 vein pairs, exhibit a slight shine on the upper surface and a cordate base.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a mound-like clump 36 inches in both height and diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its substantial blue-green foliage provides a strong textural contrast when paired with fine-leaved plants such as ferns or astilbes. Given its giant size, it is best used as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border, and is not suitable for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the large, corrugated leaves may attract both pests.
