Overview

Registered in 2001 by L.H. Bailey, this small hosta cultivar is distinguished by its creamy white leaf margins and dark green centers, with leaves that exhibit a distinctive torsionally twisted form and spiral curl at the tip. The ovate, cordate-based leaves measure 6 inches (15.2 cm) long by 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide, with 7 to 8 impressed vein pairs and a shiny underside.

In the Garden

'Hosta 'Undulata' forms a dome-shaped clump reaching 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders or as edging in partial to full shade. Its small size and compact habit allow it to pair well with ferns, heucheras, or other small perennials, and it performs adequately in containers. The purple-dotted scapes rise 32 to 40 inches (81.3 to 101.6 cm) above the foliage in summer, bearing flowers that are green striped with yellowish green or white.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer exposures, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring. Typical hosta-growing zones apply; slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed preventatively.
