Overview
Registered in 2008, this giant blue-green hosta was bred from the species *Hosta hypoleuca* (pod parent) and *Hosta kikutii* var. *caput avis* (pollen parent). 'Uncle Albert' is visually distinctive for its broadly ovate, cupped leaves with a glaucous bloom beneath and light green, slightly rippled margins, combined with a notably large flower head at maturity.
In the Garden
Reaching 127 cm (50 in) in diameter and 35.6 cm (14 in) in height, this mound-forming cultivar is suited to partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. Its substantial blue-green foliage pairs well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade perennials that complement its cool tones. The plant's moderate growth rate and giant size make it a strong specimen for mid-border or woodland garden settings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the broad, cupped leaves can be attractive to these pests.
