Overview

Registered in 2004, *Hosta* 'Unbridled Passion' is a large cultivar resulting from a cross of (*H.* 'Neat Splash' x *H.* 'Northern Halo') with *H.* 'Maekawa'. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with heavily rippled, creamy white margins that occasionally display a celedon streak extending into the center.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a mound 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and is suitable for mid-border or specimen placement where its heavily rippled, white-edged foliage provides textural contrast. The 24 to 27 inch (61.0 to 68.6 cm) green scapes bear lavender flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs may damage the leaves, and deer are known to browse hostas, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
