Overview
Registered in 2012 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Paul's Glory', 'Synergy' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its reversed coloration: blue-green leaves with chartreuse to golden yellow margins, the inverse of its parent's gold-centered, blue-green margined foliage. The leaves are ovate with rounded to cordate bases, lightly wavy margins, and a glaucous bloom on both surfaces.
In the Garden
'Synergy' forms a mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 42 inches (106.7 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the blue-green leaf centers and gold margins hold their color; too much sun may scorch the margins, while deep shade can reduce the yellow contrast. The 9-inch-long, 7-inch-wide leaves with 10 to 12 vein pairs provide substantial texture, making it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen among ferns, heucheras, or other shade perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Synergy' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
