Overview

Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Sydney' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown parentage, with *Hosta* 'William Lachman' as the seed parent. It is visually distinctive for its sharply contrasting medium green leaves with wide, flat, yellow margins, combined with a fast growth rate and a compact, mound-like habit.

In the Garden

'Sydney' reaches a mature size of approximately 17 inches (43.2 cm) in diameter and 7 inches (17.8 cm) in height. Its medium size and fast growth make it suitable for the middle to front of a shaded border or as a groundcover in partial to full shade. The bright leaf margins pair well with dark-leaved heucheras or ferns, and the plant is also appropriate for container cultivation in typical hosta-growing zones.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Sydney' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
