Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek, *Hosta* 'Swizzle Sticks' is a small, mound-forming hybrid resulting from a cross between *H. montana* 'Aureomarginata' and *H. venusta*, with *H.* 'Maruba Iwa' as the pollen parent. Its variegated foliage features medium green margins and a dull upper surface, contrasting with whitish, shiny undersides.

In the Garden

This compact cultivar reaches approximately 13 inches (33.0 cm) in height and spreads to 34 inches (86.4 cm) in diameter, forming a dense, rounded mound. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones and pairs well with small ferns, heucheras, or woodland groundcovers. Its small size makes it an appropriate choice for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas.
