Hosta ‘Sweet Tater Pie’ is a registered cultivar () .

Year registered1995
Section classIV-3

Overview

Registered in 1995, this small hosta cultivar resulted from crossing *Hosta* 'Gold Scepter' (pod parent) with *Hosta yingeri* (pollen parent). Its most distinctive feature is the combination of very shiny green leaf centers with medium waxy gold margins, creating a strong bicolor contrast on a compact mound.

In the Garden

'Sweet Tater Pie' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the gold margins remain brightest without scorching. The small size and shiny foliage make it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or containers, paired with fine-textured shade plants such as ferns or tiarella.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, applying water at soil level to keep the shiny leaves dry and reduce foliar disease risk. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges; typical slug and deer precautions apply for hosta-growing zones.
