Overview

Registered in 1990 by M. Zilis as a sport of *Hosta* 'Sweet Susan', 'Sweet Serenity' is a large hosta distinguished by its medium green leaves with white margins. The plant forms a substantial mound reaching 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height and 51 inches (129.5 cm) in diameter, with individual leaves measuring 10.5 inches (26.7 cm) long and 6.25 inches (15.9 cm) wide, each bearing nine vein pairs.

In the Garden

'Sweet Serenity' performs best in partial to full shade, where its white-margined foliage remains most stable. Its large mature size makes it suitable as a specimen plant or as a backdrop for smaller perennials such as ferns, heucheras, and astilbes. The plant is not suited for container cultivation due to its substantial spread.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Sweet Serenity' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; regular monitoring and appropriate controls are recommended in areas where these pests are prevalent.
