Overview
Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Sweet Chariot' is a giant-sized cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, derived from the pod parent *H.* 'Pin Stripe Sister'. It is visually distinguished by its large, broadly ovate leaves of medium green with pale yellow, slightly rippled margins, forming a dense, mound-like clump.
In the Garden
'Sweet Chariot' reaches a mature spread of 72 inches (183 cm) and a height of 34 inches (86 cm), making it suitable as a bold specimen or a large-scale groundcover in shaded borders. It performs best in partial to full shade with consistent moisture, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its substantial size precludes container cultivation.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain evenly moist soil, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While slug and deer resistance is not absolute, the thick, corrugated leaves offer moderate deterrence.
