Overview
Registered in 2005, *Hosta* 'Surrender' is a small sport of a splashed seedling of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its very wide, creamy to pure white leaf margins—up to 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide—that cause pronounced cupping along the sides of the medium green leaf blade.
In the Garden
This slow to medium growing cultivar forms a mound 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. Its small size and shiny, variegated leaves make it an effective groundcover or edging plant, and it performs well in containers. Pair with fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera* to contrast its broad, cupped foliage.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage accordingly.
