Overview
Registered in 2002, this giant sport of an unnamed parent is distinguished by its massive, deeply corrugated blue-green leaves with wide, irregular gold margins. The foliage exhibits a dull upper surface with a glaucous bloom beneath, and the chimeral nature of the plant produces green-streaked straw scapes, as well as straw, all-green, and variegated seed pods.
In the Garden
Reaching 28 inches (71.1 cm) in height and 43 inches (109.2 cm) in diameter, 'Supreme Expectations' commands substantial space in the border or shade garden. Its slow growth rate and upright habit make it suitable as a specimen plant in partial to full shade, where it pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The large leaf size and heavy corrugation provide textural contrast against finer-leaved companions.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Typical hosta-growing zones apply; slug and deer damage may occur, though the thick, corrugated leaves offer some resistance.
