Overview
Registered in 2010 by M. Zilis, 'Super Bowl' is a large hosta distinguished by its heavily corrugated, deeply cupped, nearly round leaves of blue-green with broad, flat golden yellow margins. The leaf undersides display a glaucous bloom, while the upper surface is dull.
In the Garden
'Super Bowl' forms a slow-growing, mound-like clump reaching 44 inches (112 cm) in diameter and 17 inches (43 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of blue-leaved hostas, where the gold margins remain brightest. Its substantial foliage pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials; the large size makes it suitable as a specimen or in mixed borders.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing.
