Overview

Registered in 2005 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Sunset Strip' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its glossy, dark blue-green leaves with luminous multicolor streaking and gold margins. The foliage exhibits a complex variegation pattern of blue-green streaked with light green, greenish-yellow, light yellow, and golden yellow along slightly rippled margins, with a glaucous bloom on the underside and white backs.

In the Garden

This upright, fast-growing hosta reaches 30 inches (76.2 cm) in both height and diameter, with scapes extending 36 to 43 inches (91.4 to 109.2 cm) above the foliage. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the gold margins remain most vibrant, and is suitable for mid-border positions, woodland gardens, or as a specimen plant in typical hosta-growing zones. Its bold leaf texture and multicolor variegation pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer exposures, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor foliage regularly and employ barriers or repellents where these pests are prevalent.
