Overview
Registered in 1986 by E. Nesmith and the American Hosta Society, 'Sunlight Sister' is a giant hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its large, heavily textured green leaves with wide, yellow-green to chartreuse margins that brighten with sunlight exposure.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature spread of 66 inches (167.6 cm) and a height of 24 inches (61.0 cm), making it suitable as a specimen plant or for filling large spaces in partial to full shade. Its substantial size and bold leaf margins pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that provide contrasting textures. The plant produces scapes up to 36 inches (91.4 cm) tall, though scape height may vary.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Sunlight Sister' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
