Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Frances Williams' registered by P. Ruh in 2001, 'Sunlight' is distinguished by its large, ovate leaves with green centers and medium gold, slightly rippled margins. The cultivar is notable as a forerunner of the golden sieboldianas known as 'Golden Sunburst', exhibiting a slow growth rate and upright habit.
In the Garden
Mature plants reach 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter, forming a substantial clump suitable for mid-border or woodland garden positions. The leaves, measuring 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) long by 6.75 inches (17.1 cm) wide, are lightly corrugated and moderately twisted, folded, and wavy, with 14 prominent vein pairs and a dull surface both above and below. This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials; its large size makes it unsuitable for containers.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick leaves offer some resistance to slugs, though standard preventive measures are advisable in damp conditions; deer may browse the foliage.
