Overview

Registered in 1991 by R. Benedict, this miniature hosta is distinguished by its narrow, glossy green leaves with prominent, light yellow undulating margins. The foliage is notably small, measuring 2 inches (5.1 cm) in length and 0.5 inches (1.3 cm) in width, with only two pairs of veins, and forms a compact mound reaching 2 inches (5.1 cm) in height and 5 inches (12.7 cm) in diameter.

In the Garden

‘Sunlight Child’ is suited to partial to full shade, where its gold-edged leaves maintain best color without scorching. Its diminutive mature size—approximately 5 inches across and 2 inches tall—makes it an excellent choice for troughs, fairy gardens, or the front edge of a shaded border. It pairs well with other miniature hostas, small ferns, or creeping shade perennials such as *Viola* or *Chrysogonum virginianum*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; regular monitoring and protective measures are recommended in typical hosta-growing zones.
