Overview
Registered in 2007, *Hosta* 'Sun Shower' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from an F2 cross of a very blue *H. sieboldiana* with *H. longipes*, using *H. sieboldiana* × *H.* 'One Man's Treasure' as the pod parent with open pollination. The plant is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves edged with bright yellow, flat margins, and a glaucous bloom on both leaf surfaces.
In the Garden
This mound-forming hosta reaches approximately 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 22 inches (55.9 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved cultivars, where the gold margins contrast well with the blue-green centers. The broadly ovate, cordate-based leaves, each about 8 inches (20.3 cm) long and 6 inches (15.2 cm) wide with 12 vein pairs and light waviness, make it suitable for shaded borders, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in mixed perennial beds. Its medium size limits container suitability to larger pots.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Sun Shower' may be susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing in typical hosta-growing zones.
