Overview

Registered in 2004, *Hosta* 'Sun Disk' is a large, slow-growing cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *H. 'Sea Lotus Leaf'* as the pod parent. It is visually distinctive for its nearly round, chartreuse leaves that exhibit both concave and convex cupping, with blue-green centers and greenish-yellow flat margins.

In the Garden

'Sun Disk' reaches a mature size of 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter, with an upright growth habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and its large, corrugated, glaucous leaves provide textural contrast alongside ferns, heucheras, or other shade perennials. Its moderate size and slow growth make it suitable for border fronts or shaded beds, though its upright scapes of grayish-green flowers rise 16 to 20 inches (40.6 to 50.8 cm) above the foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Sun Disk' may be susceptible to slug damage, and deer browsing can occur in areas where these animals are present.
