Overview
Registered in 2012, *Hosta* 'Summer Wind' is a large-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'William Lachman'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Stingray'* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with wide, creamy white, heavily rippled margins and a glaucous bloom on the undersides.
In the Garden
'Sunmer Wind' forms an upright, moderate-growing clump reaching 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-green hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large size and bold foliage make it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While hostas are generally susceptible to slug and deer damage, the thick, rippled leaf margins may offer some resistance.
